The Ferry Boat House

The Ferry Boathouse is situated on the River Gannel below the cafe

Access is via the privately owned steps which are open to the public.

Between 10am and 6pm during the open season (end may – mid september) or from Crantock Beach across the River Gannel.

During the season, the Boathouse provides access between Crantock Beach and East Pentire headland, Newquay.

When the tide is in (approx 3hrs either side of high water) the ferry boat ‘Sunshine‘ will take you across the river (about 200 yards) to the beach for a small charge (see charges below).

At low tide (app. 3hrs either side of low water) a foot bridge will allow you to walk across the river free of charge.

Ok so I only live across the gannel but if you are on holiday and go to crantock beach it is well worth the trip across to the FERN PIT CAFE and the lovely boathouse at the base of the cliff, either by ferry at high tide

The Boathouse is over 100 years old and houses the ferry and rowing boats during the winter months.

During the summer it operates as a beach shop selling all your usual beach going gear.

We sell:

  • buckets,
  • spades,
  • rubber dinghies,
  • wind breaks,
  • body boards,
  • beach games and balls
  • as well as crab fishing lines,
  • nets and bait which can be used in the river and rock pools on the beach.

If you’re looking for a gift or souvenir to take home then we sell a wide range of shells and jewellery.

You can come into the boathouse and view live lobsters and crabs caught by our own fishing boat ‘Zarvan’.

These are available to buy (cooked or live) and can be ordered in the shop or by calling us at any time (see contact us).

More info can be found on the Crab & Lobster page.

We also sell LIVE SANDEEL at £2 for 10.
